desert rose, why do you live alone?

The past week has been pretty messed. For those of you who don’t know, don’t need to know…and for those who do, don’t need me to remind them why.

School has been going pretty well. I’m actually going through my head and trying to figure out what aspect of designing I want to follow. Originally, I thought I’d just get straight into interior design of houses. Yeah, it’s a lot of fun, but I think I need more control. I want to follow my own heart, and not have to worry about what others think. One of my greatest inspirations has always been Isamu Noguchi. His infamous coffee table was the first piece that ever caught my eye and really had me take a look at the relationships of balance between art and life. That’s definitely something I want to do. I don’t know how exactly I’m going to do it yet, but man, I’d love to have my own collection and just be one of those chapters that you see in all the period of furniture, after art deco and modernism and post modernism. One major flaw I see in today’s current design is the lack of balance between form and function. There’s so many collections of absolute beauty, but have no place being in a home. It’s like the whole idea of concept cars. Why the hell do you want to take the time and energy to build all these cool new cars, but never break them out into production. That’s one of the problems with America. Take a look overseas in Asia. Japan and Korea are well known for their turn around in product designs. Granted they don’t have the size and mass that America does, but they pump out things as fast as demand is asking for them. Apple is the only one smart enough these days to follow that trend. I mean, how many freaking iPods do they come out with every year? It’s annoying as hell cause you can never keep up, but you know everyone loves it. We live in a world where things get played out so quickly. Society hungers for so much more. I personally love the progression. Anyway, to get back to my main point, most designers these days who design for the actual design, don’t design enough for the consumer in mind. I know that I want to produce something that can be kept on all levels. Not exactly, an Ikea, cause I’d never put my name on such crap…just similar. But also realize, they keeping getting you, and everyone, to go back. I don’t care about having my pieces tagged for the snobby rich people, who don’t even deserve so much of what they buy. Oh well, I gotta finish up my school stuff first.

I guess that’s all I want to say for now.
