Engrave Your Book Moleskine® Cover

EngraveYourBook.com has recently started to produce custom covers for large Moleskine® notebooks. As a part of my measure to step down my dependency on technology, I decided to snag one of these trendy notebooks and make a cover. They have a moderate selection of designs to choose from in their artist series, but the custom examples is where the $80 cost is really justified.

I spent a good 3 months working on a design trying to incorporate every aspect of my life. But after realizing the difficulty of producing such a design, I opted to go for a really simple design that encompasses my life. It’s a design that can mean nothing, yet everything at the same time. I’ll leave that up to you to decide how you want to interpret it.

The main thing I wanted to focus on is the high level of craftsmanship used to make the product. With the cover, Joe Mansfield (founder of Engrave Your Book) also sent along a water repellent wax to treat the leather and prepare it for wear and tear. Just applying it by hand took about 10 minutes and darkened the leather hide to a much deeper and richer brown-ish red color.

My only complaint: it smells kind of funky.
